Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to bring? We supply bedding and bed linen, blankets, towels, tea towels, washing up liquid, shower gel, soap, tea, coffee, muesli and milk. We advise you to bring some slippers (especially during the winter), your toothbrush and some toothpaste.
Do the huts have a fridge/cooking facilities? Willow and Alder have a fridge. They also have a two ring hob, a table top oven which also grills and toasts. Beech, our off-grid hut, has an effective cool box and access to a fridge nearby. Beech has a methylated spirit hob and a Camping Gaz hob for cooking.
Are the huts cold? No, they are fully insulated and have double glazed windows. Each hut has a wood burning stove and a back up electric heater (except Beech) as well as a good supply of blankets.
What facilities can I expect in the washroom? We decided to have huts with separate washrooms so that the washing facilities could be as comfortable and roomy as possible. Each washroom has a loo, shower, basin, towel airer, hair dryer (except Beech) and plenty of hooks.
How far are the washrooms from the huts? Depending on which hut you are staying, the washroom is either 50m or 70m away, down a bark path. Beech has its own washroom hut just a few metres away.
How near are the huts from each other? Each hut is situated within its own garden space. We have planted hedges and a number of trees around the huts to screen them from each other.
Do I need to bring wood for the wood burner/fire pit? No, we give you a good supply of wood, kindling, fire lighters and matches. You might want to bring a bag of charcoal if you intend to cook over the fire pit though it is possible to cook using wood too.
Can I walk to the sea from Fen Lodge? Yes, we are only 3 miles from the sea. At the end of our lane you can pick up the footpath that runs along the Minsmere New Cut which takes you to Eastbridge and then onto the coast.
Can I walk to a pub? Yes, in fact there are three pubs that are within a 10 to 20 minute walk from Fen Lodge; the Bell in Middleton, the Crown in Westleton and the White Horse in Westleton.
